A drinking challenge turned deadly when a 53-year-old father attempted to drink all 21 cocktails on the bar menu at a resort in Jamaica.

ITV News reports that Timothy Southern was traveling last May with his children at Royal Decameron Club Caribbean in St. Ann, Jamaica. He drank 12 of the challenge's 21 cocktails, and was later found unresponsive in his hotel room.

According to ITV News, Southern had already been drinking brandy and beer when he decided to join two other guests who were attempting to complete the dangerous cocktail challenge.

A family member declared that the treatment Southern received was "disgusting" and detailed the series of events that occurred in his hotel room.

"He was on his back choking. I put him in the recovery position and screamed for an ambulance,” they shared with ITV News. “He was making a gurgling sound. As soon as he was in the recovery position he vomited. I was shouting his name with no response. When the nurse arrived I said had an ambulance been called and she said 'no'. I thought she would take over. But that was not the case. I noticed he was starting to lose temperature. I checked his pulse and couldn't find it."

A fundraiser that has since ended raised roughly $10,000 to cover the costs to bring Southern back to his home in England to be buried.

"Unfortunately, after doing some digging to find information about his insurance we have found out that he's not actually covered by his bank (as he had originally thought). This leaves us with an impossibly large amount of money to find in order to bring him home and pay for his funeral," read a description on the GoFundMe page.
