Ketchup's great, mustard's swell and salad cream is crazy-tasty. But none of these condiments holds a candle to mayonnaise. I realise that this is all a matter of opinion, but seeing as this opinion is correct, it's no longer a matter of opinion actually. You get me?

Anyway, if you don't believe me when I say mayo is the best condiment known to man, then maybe these 17 reasons will change your mind.

1. You wouldn’t have prawn mayo, tuna mayo or egg mayo sandwiches without it. Imagine a meal deal without those precious angels. You can't, can you?

2. Chips are already amazing, but mayonnaise takes them to a whole new level. If you haven't had chips and mayo in Belgium, then book that Eurostar this very second.

3. No sandwich has ever been made worse by adding mayonnaise, and that's a fact. But a lot have been a shambles because of a lack of it.

4. You can create a number of new sauces by combining mayo with other things. Mustard mayo, Marie Rose sauce, tartare sauce, aioli etc etc. Which other condiments can you say that of, eh?

5. Unlike a lot of other sauces, all brands of mayonnaise are incredible. Hellmann’s is king, obvs, but everyone goes wild for Heinz too.

6. Coleslaw is the best part of any salad bar and it’s all thanks to mayo.

7. Oh, and potato salad comes a very close second for that same reason.

8. Coronation chicken wouldn’t stand a chance of being the delight that it is without mayonnaise.

9. And you know that Mayo Chicken burger at McDonald’s? Yup, that sure as hell wouldn’t exist.

10. Mayonnaise is so amazing, you can even bake a cake with it. Simply switch out butter and eggs for mayo, and watch in awe as the greatest chocolate cake you've ever made emerges from the oven.

11. It makes mashed potatoes 100% creamier, and if you haven’t tried this yet, what the hell are you still doing here? Get into your kitchen and get them spuds peeled NOW.

12. It’s a great way to get breadcrumbs to stick to chicken and fish when beaten egg just ain't cutting it.

13. Mayonnaise is so incredibly amazingly brilliant that it even removes watermarks from wood. Simply rub it on the mark, leave it for a few hours then wipe. "How does that work?", I hear you ask. Well, it works because the moisture in the mayo displaces the moisture locked in the wood, so it can be wiped away.

14. And it erases crayon from walls because the oils in mayonnaise break down crayon marks. All you have to do is simply dab it on the mark, let it sit for a bit and then wipe away.

15. Mayo can actually get gum out of hair, too. Rubbing it onto the gum will soften it, and it will be easy to remove.

16. Speaking of hair, it makes a smashing hair mask thanks to fat of the oil and the protein in the egg.

17. And if you’ve spent too long in the sun, it’s very soothing for burnt skin, believe it or not. Although, it might be worth having an extra good wash before you head out. Otherwise everyone at da club will start craving chips and mayo from that kebab shop down the road every time they talk to you.
